Five Levels to A Purposeful Life
Ever felt like…
😓 Bored (“there’s nothing interesting for me to do!”)
😓 Empty
😓 Hopeless
😓 Confused
😓 Uninspired
I’ve been in your position. When I had my brain injury in 2006, I was clueless on the next steps I should take as the life I knew were gone.
Battling myself and uncertainty of what life would be next, I went back to what I knew from Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It is a pyramid that gives you a clear direction on what you need in order to go after a fulfilled life.
The first level is to fulfil your physical needs (food, water, rest, etc.) which what I focused on after my injury. Next is the second level which is all about fulfilling your safety needs (personal security, employment, etc.) After that has been taken care of, you can move to the next level of need which is love and belongingness needs (relationships, needs, etc.). After that is the fourth need which is esteem needs (self-esteem, recognition, freedom, etc.). The last level is self-actualization needs (achieving full potential).
So I first focused on getting my physical needs (resting, eating, healing etc) then I secured my safety needs by going back to my full-time job. Next, I cultivated healthy relationships that will support me. Then I moved to the self-esteem needs by being part of managing a global event. This led to my promotion which made me realised that even with a brain injury (I was only 85% recovered) I still reached my potential and inspired others to do the same!
Same thing with the earthquakes in 2010 and the rest of my challenges which now led to my abundant life and business, I will share more in my next post.
Hence why I want the same for you. Life will throw you challenges and crises gives you opportunities for you to stop and reflect on your life. Don’t let it hinder you from living your best life or business just because you’re stuck in boredom, emptiness, hopelessness, uninspired and confusion to find your purpose in life.
